Silversmithing in school; My compass pendant

This pendant began as a freehand sketch in my sketchbook while daydreaming in class one day.

I started of with staring at a photo of a vintage sun, moon and compass and wanted to combine both to create a pendant incorporating all three elements to complete this design. While working out the sketches, I already had in mind the center of the pendant- a gray

Originally, I contemplated using the lost wax technique, but decided against it because I wanted to put more practice into my hand sawing technique.
I hand cut the main shape, and melted down scraps of silver for form little spheres to place around the pendant. Doing so added a missing part of the things I make-texture.

While the cute pendant has its own charm, it came with a whole new level of challenges and lessons. The photo shows the pendant at its rougher stages. Since this photo has been taken, I have slowly started going over the pendant with a fine toothed file.
